electro(Acoustic) (2025)
This piece is informed by my process of creating electronic music, but translated into an acoustic realm. Using the electronic studio techniques that I am familiar with, I wrote the music as if I were shaping the sound, rather than thinking in traditional music theory.
I have written both electronic and instrumental works, but these pieces exist in very different sonic realms. With this work, the aim was to find a way to connect these two worlds into one cohesive sound.

escape (2024)
Some activities can trigger memories and nostalgia. For me, knitting is something that, due to its repetitive nature, puts me in that frame of mind and allows my thoughts to drift to other places.

here in this place (i am home) (2024)
here in this place is a piece inspired by nature, and by personal experience.
There are times when life can get stressful, and when your head gets filled with thoughts that you cannot suppress. This overwhelms and takes over all aspects of your life. It’s like a train, going down multiple tracks at once, but not able to stop.
Long drives and hikes have a way of easing that tension for me, of clearing out the fog and clutter that has burdened my life. When I sit in the car, put on my favorite music, and choose a destination, that is my personal escape. And when I step out of the car into nature, breathing in the clean air, and listening to the silence, I can feel a sense of peace and calm take over my mental state.

Asian food is too weird (2023)
"Asian food is too weird" is a phrase that I have heard a lot, growing up in the United States. While people have become more accepting of authentic Asian food, we still experience microagressions and ignorance from many who do not understand our culture. Thus, these pieces were created as a commentary towards that.

Where are you from? No, where are you really from? (2022)
Where are you from? No, where are you really from? is a deeply personal piece for me, as it explores my own questions around identity. As a second-generation Asian-American, and having lived in both Singapore and the United States, it is difficult to know where I truly identify myself with, and this piece aims to explore that.
The titular question is one that many people of color can relate to, and by turning this question inwards, it allows for the exploration of self.
Where are you from? No, where are you really from? is written for tenor saxophone and fixed electronics. Structured improvisation is used as a medium for expression and creating a human evocation of the struggles of identity.

Lunch Rush (2021)
Written for a frying pan and lid. Preferably an iron skillet, but any pan of at least 10" diameter will do.
With this piece, I wanted to capture the busiest part of a restaurant's day, which is when the lunch crowd arrives. The listener is transported into a bustling restaurant kitchen, with its inherent chaos but with an underlying rhythmic predictability.

A Walk in the Forest (2021)
Imagine taking a quiet walk in the forest, where the sun is shining, and the peace and tranquility surround you. This piece was inspired by that feeling, which I tried to capture in music. Through the simple melodic motives as well as the sparse texture, the listener is invited to share in the meditative mood of walking alone in the forest.
